First off, let me take this time to thank all members of the SFCCL who “participated” in season 3. I place the word “participate” in quotes as that term’s definition is a bit expanded to include all members who signed up for this season. While not all members may have played an official match, 51 different people signed up to play this season. Without your support or interest, this league would not exist. Period. Thank you for your interest and commitment to the SFCCL.
Friday, November 18th, 2011, marked the end of the regular season for the Americas Region (European Region still has two more weeks). The season began on Friday, July 15th. Eighteen weeks later, the post-season begins. The top 8 fighters from the 4 Americas Region divisions will now advance to the SUPER BRAWL II tournament. The fighters who did not finish in the top 8 are officially done playing this season. Below are the final standings for the Americas Region for season
three:
below:
Due to the European Region starting two weeks after the Americas Region, they will still be playing regular season matches until Friday, December 2nd. I will post the European Region brackets the following day. Since they are a smaller group, only 16 fighters advance to the European brackets, compared to 32 fighters advancing on the Americas side.
All SUPER BRAWL III matches are best 2 out of 3 five-round matches, just like the regular season matches. However, the Grand Championship match is best 3 out of 5 five-round matches as previous final SUPER BRAWL matches have been.
There is no time limit for these matches. The members’ fighters who qualified for the tournament are, not coincidently, the most committed members so I expect all matches to be played at a steady pace. However, I do plan to have this tournament complete by the end of the year. Please report all results to me directly via email, PSN message, or forums post. The winning fighter advances to the next round of the tournament while the losing fighter’s season is over.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this past season thus far. Based on the feedback I’ve received this past season, most if not all members liked this new format we used this season. The luxury of playing your matches at your own pace over the 18 weeks was the biggest reason. Also, having your full schedule of matches posted from the beginning of the season allowed for a lot of easy playing. Of course, there were some members who I like to call “bad apples”, those members who obviously didn’t care to play their matches. As a result, it brings down their fellow members and the league. I won’t post their names here, but it is clear to see who was playing and who wasn’t. The defining line for a “bad apple” is playing less than 50% of their matches (13 or less).
I took the time to re-evaluate the percentage of matches played by removing these “bad apples” from the league. In other words, had they not been part of the league, how did everyone else play? Surprisingly, the Eastern Conference played more of their matches than the Western Conference. The main reason for that is because the Eastern Conference has 3 “bad apples” while the Western Conference only had one. Removing these members from the league, the Eastern Conference ended up playing 88% of their matches among the remaining 12 members. Compare that to the Western Conference who played 82% of their matches for the remaining 14 members. Overall, the Americas Region played 84% of their matches without the “bad apples”. That is a very high number and something I didn’t expect after this analysis.
Based on this adjusted number, I am now seriously reconsidering a 4th season of the SFCCL. I hate to turn my back on
committed members. As the saying goes…don’t let a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. I’ve begin to brainstorm ideas for a 4th season which would be about the same size as this season or slightly smaller.
I’ll post the European Region numbers when their season concludes. Their numbers will not be as good.
Good luck to all fighters in SUPER BRAWL III!
