This league will be completely independent from this original SFCCL, and completely voluntary. Some may choose to only play in this original league, while other may choose to only play in the 2v2 league. While, of course, others may join one or both of the leagues.
The league will function almost as a mirror of this original SFCCL. Instead of being the traditional 1-on-1 matches we have on a weekly basis, the SFCCL 2v2 League will matchup 4 different people. Each member will use two different fighters, like the original league. Each team is required to have 2 different fighters as well. Each member will be part of two different, separate ranking teams, but the actual players will be together for both teams. For example, the first official team to sign up is xxULTIMACLOUDxx and DELTRON2020. They each will part of two different teams, and be forced to use two different characters. If they were to use the same fighters as they are currently using in the SFCCL, then one team would consist of Rufus & Ryu. Their 2nd team would be Balrog and Rufus. They could not make a team of 2 Rufus fighters though nor could they be the same fighter in both teams.
The teams should provide for a lot of great drama and fighting. Partners will basically become sparring partners as they share as much knowledge as possible to become better. This system will allow all players to become more knowledgeable in players fighting techniques as well as learning the specific characters better. Of course, if any team splits up, that will also create some interesting drama & fighting.
With the possibility of a 2nd season of the standard 1v1 SFCCL looming, I personally will be too busy with my real life (yes, I do have one!) and the original league to run the 2v2 league. The administrator for the 2v2 league will be UltimaCloud. He is our reigning Gold Champion with Rufus, and has proven himself to be a trusted individual as a Special Events Coordinator for me and the SFCCL. I have full confidence in him that he will do an outstanding job running the 2v2 League. I will assist him in overseeing the League be run to the standards of this original SFCCL. That is why we are extending the brand name to this new 2v2 league, not calling it something completely different.
As mentioned before, he is mirroring the 2v2 League to this original SFCCL. There will be 4 divisions (Gold, Silver, Bronze, & A Division) with 8 teams each. The 32 teams will battle each other over a 2 week period & reporting all results back to CLOUD. He will then record the results, re-rank the teams, and post the new matches every two weeks. Win, and your team moves up the rankings towards the 2v2 Gold Championship. Lose, and your team falls in the rankings. Sound familiar?
He has created a website exclusively for this 2v2 League: http://sfccl2v2.enjin.com/home
Enrollment is now open for all current & outside SFCCL members. Note, the first 32 players to signup will be included for the 2v2 League. If you don’t have someone you want to team up with, a partner will be provided. However, the 33rd member to signup will be added to a Waiting List and not be part of the league until an opening is available (Cloud & Deltron are the first 2 members already). The players on the Waiting List will be forced to wait until a team or member drops out. This is a concept that most likely will also be put in place for a 2nd season of the original SFCCL, as too many members result in lost interest, un-played matches, and difficulty reaching them to meet up for these weekly matches. This is a major problem currently for the SFCCL as we became too big. On average, these 2v2 matches via the Capcom team battle system could take from 30 to 40 minutes to complete since only 1 match can go on at one time. The other 2 players not fighting will be able to watch though from the newly created lobbies, if we are to believe Capcom’s promises. If the system creates too many problems (lag, disconnects, etc), we could go back to standard 1v1 matches to play the team battles with the help of the PSN Text Chats to organize the matches, like what was done for the SFCCL Special Events.
Each week, a different member of the team will start the match. For example, with the team of CLOUD and DELTRON, Cloud would play the first match. The following week, Deltron would start. This rule is set in place to prevent any arguing or discussions about who plays first and prevents players from ‘picking’ their favorable matchups. It forces everyone to play fair and requires everyone to participate.
CLOUD is currently working on the website to update all the Rules & Regulations that will govern this exciting 2v2 League. Go there and register to signup or ask any other questions you might have. With the popularity of this original SFCCL and the success of the 2v2 tournaments we’ve held this past year, we expect the 2v2 League to be very successful & fill up quickly.
Good luck! We hope you will join us in the next generation of the SFCCL! I hope to make an official announcement in regards to the original SFCCL second season in a few weeks.
