14 members showed for the special tournament. That is 18% of all possible members. Now, I think that is pretty good as I can’t imagine conducting a tournament with 70+ players! Nonetheless, it gave us 7 teams in a double elimination 2v2 tournament. All matches were best 2 out of 3 five-round matches.
Congratulations to the team of VIETNAMAZING and xxULTIMACLOUDxx for coming in 1st place. Coincidently, both members have won prior unofficial 2v2 tournaments. 2nd place went to the team of DELTON2020 and SBL21. 3rd place was earned by MANWITHNOARMS and SFGODFATHER.
Below is a listing of all participating members:
Vietnamazing / xxUltimaCloudxx
Deltron2020 / SBL21
Manwithnoarms / SFGodfather
CapitolC / DJCacara
Wild_X_187 / Auzziegamer
Focushin / Orkanmuoh23
SALonghorn / Flashfan7
As with any event, the process was long and painful at times. Some members dropped out during the process, unfortunately. All apologies but these things do take time to organize & run efficiently. Hopefully, the new team battles and lobby features in the upcoming Super SF4 will help with these types of events.
Special thanx to ULTIMACLOUD for running the whole thing. He is one of the Special Coordinators that volunteered for this job! In the end, he enjoyed the process as we may begin a 2v2 SFCCL when the new game is released. That is an ongoing work in process. Stay tuned for more details in the upcoming months.
This 2v2 Tournament was "official" because the prizes earned by each team for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place had direct impact on future matches. Below is details for each ‘prize’:
1st Place: each member of the team can choose their match in Week 20 against anyone in the League, from the Gold Division to the last division. For example, Vietnamazing and UltimaCloud can each challenge anyone from the Gold Division. Basically, they can challenge anyone in the league in an official ranked match. The winner of these matches takes the higher ranking, and the loser falls to the lower ranking.
2nd Place: each member of the team can choose their match against anyone in the next highest division, from the Division Champion to the #15 ranked fighter. For example, Deltron2020 and SBL21 can each challenge anyone in the next highest division for each of their fighters. This is like their own personal inter-divisional match. The winner of these matches takes the higher ranking, and the loser falls to the lower ranking.
3rd Place: each member of the team can choose their match against anyone in their own division, from the Division Champion to the #15 ranked fighter. For example, Manwithnoarms and SFGodfather can each challenge anyone in their fighter’s division. This would allow them to jump to the top of a division & be in position to move into a higher division with any auto-promotions. The winner of these matches takes the higher ranking, and the loser falls to the lower ranking.
These 'prizes' will be exercised in WEEK 20. Be prepared for some odd matchups, including possible byes for certain figthers based on these special matches.
Once again, thanx to everyone who made this event possible and a success. We hope to do another official special event in 2 months.
Week 19 rankings and matches will be posted tomorrow, Wednesday, November 25th.
