Congratulations also to the teams of JOK3RFRMBK and ZABI- (both from New York) for coming in 2nd Place as the Loser Bracket finalists, and congratulations to the 3rd Place team of SABISHIIRYUU & WAUHTI (both from Finland). Each team has earned themselves a specific Prize Match (to be played during Week 14) as follows:
1st Place (Jay19000 & Cuby): Each member earns a Prize Match for one of their fighters to challenge any fighter in the league for their division ranking. Winning fighter takes higher ranking while the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
2nd Place (Jok3rfrmbk & Zabi-): Each member earns a Prize Match for one of their fighters to challenge any fighter in the next highest division for their ranking. Winning fighter takes higher ranking while the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
3rd Place (SabishiiRyuu & Wauhti): Each member earns a Prize Match for one of their fighters to challenge any fighter in the same division for their rankings. Winning fighter takes higher ranking while the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
At the end of this blog is a complete listing of the members who participated as well as the tournament results.
We had a great turnout for the event. 24 members participated in the event, which is over 1/3 of the league. That is our biggest turnout yet! 19 members were from the Americas Region (3 Canadians) and 5 members were from the European Region staying up late into the wee hours to play (event began at 1:30 AM England time). The 24 members were then paired up in the SFCCL Clubhouse prior to the event beginning:
*BPKing (Texas) & Crusader884 (New Jersey)
Haduken3 (Washington) & Manwithnoarms2 (California)
Jay19000 & Cuby (brothers from Florida)
Jok3rfrmbk & Zabi- (both from New York)
* Qn-Lisa (England) & Putthatcoffeedwn (Connecticut)
* Raziel_Sinister (Canada) & Shoryuken (Washington)
* Rickytocky (Pennsylvania) & xx_Von_xx (Minnesota)
* Rudeboy_2Deep & Shooryukenn (both from England)
Sabishiiryuu & Wauhti (Finland)
Serjery & TheJunglee (both from Canada)
Skrface13 (New Jersey) & Killawaun (Michigan)
Zti890 (Louisiana) & SALonghorn (Texas)
The event did move at a quick pace, with the exception of some confusion that arose from the rule change made earlier. I do want to take the time to apologize for the confusing and (at times) chaotic nature of the tournament. I changed the rules slightly from my original post on December 10th about how the 2vs2 Tournament would operate. Originally, I had said the event would be one five-round match between two teams in a double elimination tournament. That was changed to best 2 out of 3 five-round double elimination tournament. I accept full responsibility for some of the confusion with some of the members. Next time, I will commit to one set of rules & not deviate.
The reason for the change was simply my concern that the tournament would be too short. I want to be sure that all participating members get a fun evening playing in these live, competitive events. I don't want anyone feeling as if they got short-changed by a quick one-and-done match. I also want some sense of strategy within teams as to play their best possible match. I think that was accomplished, but the late change created some confusion for some. Again, I apologize and take full responsibility. It won't happen again, you have my word on that.
Some of our events are turning into mini-EVO events in that they last a few hours! Part of the reason is the nice turnouts we've had for the War Games, Survivor Series, and 2vs2 Tournament. Each event sees more members turning out, which is awesome. However, the negative with many members participating is that the events last a few hours. For that, the winners should be commended for committing to the event until the very end. Not an easy thing to do for most.
To shorten the events, we can make subtle changes to the format we play our matches. Instead of a best 2 of 3, we can make the matches one-and-done. Instead of five-round matches, we can play three-round matches. Instead of a double elimination tournament, we can play a single elimination tournament. All of these things are interchangeable to make up various tournaments, and the rules should be flexible depending on how many members play. Not much fun to play a three-round single elimination tournament with 6 people. So, I encourage all members to leave some feedback in the COMMENTS section of this blog on how you like or dislike the formats we've used so far this season (see top right corner of blog for link). Remember, all of these events will appear again in the second half of season two.
One member also suggested certain parameters for these events such as these to level the playing field, per se. For example, making members use other characters from their main 2 fighters in the league. Perhaps we could make the 1st round open to characters with less than 10,000 Battle Points for each member. Perhaps one round of random characters being used. I like all these ideas but think the more rules we have in a live event, the more confusion we have. In a real setting, it would be easy to explain and post these rules for everyone to read at any time, but in a virtual enviornment, it creates a lot of problems. Please feel free to comment on these ideas or possible expand on them. I'm open all suggestions to make a better event.
Finally, while the 2vs2 Tournament lasted about four hours (8:30 PM to 12:30 AM Eastern), the Survivor Series still holds the record for the longest event in SFCCL history at well over 5 hours. Also, for future events, I will be stricter with the starting times of the event. Not online at the specific time or in the proper HOME space, then you don't play. Not trying to be a Grinch here, but I just want to be fair to everyone else who was where they were supposed to be & on time. Again, my apologies, as it won't happen again.
