Well, we are only a few weeks away from the start of Super Brawl III! The excitement is building around the league for the end-of-season tournament. Remember, unlike other years, no all members & their 2 fighters will play in the tournament. Only those top 8 fighters from each division will advance to the tournament brackets. The rest of the fighters will be officially done with their season. And it is entirely possible that a member may have both of their fighters in the tournament, only one fighter in the tournament, or no fighters in the tournament.
Also, please note the top 8 rankings in each division are based on total number of wins. So, even if a member is undefeated with a record of 3 wins and 0 losses, that fighter probably will not make the tournament. A fighter with a 6-win & 8-loss record would advance over the undefeated fighter. As I explained a few weeks ago, the reason for ranking system is to reward those members with the most wins AND most matches played. A member who makes an effort to play all of their matches clearly demonstrates their commitment to the league over a member who has been missing most of the season. I would seriously doubt the 3-win fighter would even show up to play in Super Brawl III. This rule was changed a few weeks ago in advance of this problem. Originally, when the season was set up, I whole heartily expected all members to play their 14 matches over 18 weeks. My mistake.
For those who have honored that commitment, I personally thank you. The upcoming tournament is dedicated to you! For those trying to complete their schedules, I thank you as well. I know it's not your fault if you can't play all 28 matches. It's clear who is and who isn't playing, or at least trying to play.
NOTE – The European Region’s part of the tournament will begin two weeks after the Americas Region. The reason is two-fold. First, they started two weeks later than the Americas Region, so they will still have the full 18 weeks to meet up with their 14 opponents (13 now since one forfeited). Secondly, only 16 fighters will advance to the tournament in their 2 divisions compared to the 32 fighters advancing in the Americas Region over 4 total divisions. Less matches need to played in order to reach the finals, hopefully around the same time the Americas Region does. The final match in Super Brawl III will pit the Americas Region champion versus the European Region champion.
Today (Friday, Nov 4th) is the end of Week 16. Only two weeks remain to play your regular season matches. At 11:00 PM Central Time on Friday, November 18th, the regular season will be officially over. I will then begin working on the Super Brawl III brackets and post them shortly afterwards. The tournament officially begins on Saturday, November 19th, 2011.
