With 24 weeks scheduled this season, we are nearly halfway thru the season. Next week (Week 12) will mark the midway point. With 38 current members, the total number of matches scheduled this season is now 1,406. Only 276 matches have been played so far, or 20%. The fact that only 20% of the matches have been played while 46% of the regular season has passed clearly shows we are falling behind the pace to play all matches. I never expected all matches to be played this season, which is why only the members/fighters with the most wins advance. Those are the players who want to finish the season, and those are the members I am thankful for. It is you that makes the SFCCL successful.
With 11 weeks complete, the average number of match that should be complete for each fighter should be 17 matches. For each member, 34 matches should be complete of the total 74 matches now scheduled. The regular season runs until Sunday, November 18, 2012.
Based on the current standings, a fighter only needs 6 to 7 wins to reach the top 8 spots in either division. That is an important number as all member in the league should have the opportunity to win the title of SFCCL Grand Champion. And to do that, a fighter must qualify for the Gold tournament in SUPER BRAWL IV, which is reserved for the top 8 fighters in each division. Based on that 6-win number, the deadline for any new members to join this season will be Week 18. Any player joining the league as late as Week 18 would still have 6 weeks to play and get the necessary number of wins to reach the Gold tournament for SUPER BRAWL IV. Of course, they would have to win all or most of their matches. That is the one challenge that all new members have since they are joining the season late. They have less time to play all their matches. We started the season with 22 members and have welcomed 16 more to this point. Next week, once we have reached the midway point of ther season, I will re-evaluate the deadline to determine if it remains Week 18 or if I have to move it forward.
Due to my vacation last week, there was no Week 10 roundup so the details below encompass two weeks of activity.
1. MATCH RESULTS (Week 11)
None
4. NEW MEMBERS FOR WEEK 11 (August 13th, 2012)
No new members set to join the league.
5. NEXT LIVE EVENT: SURVIVOR SERIES III
The third live event of the season will be the SURVIVOR SERIES, and is two weeks away from today! This is the first and only late nite event this season. This will be the third time the league will hold this type of event. It has been one of the most popular events in the past.
FAIR WARNING - prepare to play this event for a couple of hours. As in most live events, these tournaments take a while to play out. While the last event (WAR GAMES) is typically the shortest event, the SURVIVOR SERIES is probably the longest event. The first ever SURVIVOR SERIES back in season two (September 25, 2010) took nearly 5 hours to complete. So no excuses! If you want to play the event, be prepared to stay until the end, or at least until your officially eliminated from the tournament.
The reason the event is so long is two reaons. First, the event works best as a double-elimination tournament. This gives everyone two chances to avoid elimination. The second reason is because each SURVIVOR SERIES match can range from 4 to 7 individual matches. Each member creates their own 4-fighter team. Meaning you must play as 4 different fighters. When each of your fighters are eliminated, then you have officially lost your SURVIVOR SERIES match. Even with SS matches being only 3 round matches, each matchup takes time especially if it is a close battle.
If you are not competitive with 4 different fighters, then this event may not be for you. For others, using 4 fighters gives them a better chance of defeating some of the other members with one strong main figthers, sort of like a 4-versus-1 matchup. Strategy plays a big part in the event. Some members choose to start with their weakest fighter first and anchor the team with their main fighter. Others choose to start with their main fighters first. The fighter order can be changed each round. I hope to record the final matchup between the two remaining members.
Like the other events, the winning member will receive an additional win for both fighters in division standings. Since DrPepper20 and Hursh191 have won the previous events, they are not allowed to play in any future events this season.
6. WEBSITE UPDATES
Schedules and division standings have been updated based on the latest results.
