During Week 7, another member will join the league to give us a total of 35 members (70 fighters). The total number of matches per fighter will increase to 34 from 33 currently. I promised everyone more matches!
Without further delay, below are the activities around the league this past week.
1. WEEK 5 MATCH RESULTS
22 matches were played since my last weekly roundup. Plus, with the completion of the STARDUST Tournament, two additional wins have been awarded to DRPEPPER’s two fighters, Chun Li and Honda.
Thus far thru 5 weeks, 131 matches are complete this season. Of the 1,122 matches scheduled among 68 fighters that only equates to 11.7% of the total matches scheduled this season. That is not a good number if compared to the above number (11.7% matches complete / 21% of season complete).
2. WEEK 5 DIVISION STANDINGS
The division leaders have remained the same from last 2 week. Hursh191 from California still leads the A Division with his main fighter, Dee Jay, with a (11-1) record. DrPepper20 from Texas still holds the #1 spot in B Division with his main fighter, E. Honda, with a (12-1) record. DrPepper20's fighters have also received an additional win due to his winning the STARDUST Tournament, as noted above in the standings. Future winners of the live events will be noted the same way.
Since our numbers will be growing to 35 members (70 fighters) soon, I am still mulling over the idea of adding two separate tournaments under the SUPER BRAWL banner at the end of season. Again, the purpose of these additional tournaments would be to have an end of season tournament for 3 skill levels of fighters for our members. I prefer the old league format of Champions and Contenders, but that format has a lot of problems if matches go unplayed. The current league format is much more condusive to an online league. The only drawback is that skill level does not play a factor in the league. Everyone is thrown in together until Super Brawl. And even then, the line is blurry. However, with a regular season of matches to be played, it allows for fighters to rise & fall in the rankings througout the season. At the very end, we do have a good idea of where each figther ranks.
The above standings have the top 24 fighters ranked in each of the divisions. The color of the rankings indicates which tournament your figther would enter if the season ended today. For example, the top 8 fighters in each division would advance to the Gold Tournament in SUPER BRAWL IV. This is the best tournament to enter as the winner will be crowned the Grand Champion of the SFCCL. The next 8 fighters would advance to the Silver Tournament, and the winner be crowned the Silver Champion. The next 8 fighter would advance to the Bronze Tournament, etc. Each tournament would have 16 fighters (A and B Divisions combined). While the end goal for every fighter should be to win the title of Grand Champion, that goal may be more difficult for some. Breaking SUPER BRAWL IV into three skill level tournaments should provide plenty of competition for all members/fighters all season long.
The one drawback to this plan is just that......breaking SUPER BRAWL IV into three different tournaments. The previous three Super Brawls had all the figthers battling it out in one complete tournament. Even last season, while only the top figthers in each division advanced to the tournament, they all played in the same tournament. I love the history and tradition built over the years in this league, so separating the Super Brawl tournament into separate tournaments is somehow......strange. For sports fans in the USA, leagues like the NBA, MLB, and NFL do not have separate playoffs for the teams. The NCAA basketball does with the grand tourney and the National Invitational Tournament.
In the end, I am not fully decided on this matter. Love to get all member's feedbac. Post your comments here or on the Facebook poll.
NOTE - division standings are based on total number of wins, not winning percentage. The more you play, the more opportunities for more wins.
3. CHANGE OF FIGHTERS
4. NEW MEMBERS JOINING IN WEEK 7 (JULY 16th)
So far, we only have one new member set to join the league during Week 7. I eluded to him in a previous blog, but I can now confirm the new member since he officially signed up. And to answer my clue given, the former Grand Champion set to rejoin the league is:
1. CUBY (Florida)
Cuby is the 11th Grand Champion in SFCCL history. He is also Jay19000's brother.
NOTE - all new members must wait at most two weeks before offcially joining the season.
5. Next Live Tournament: WAR GAMES IV
Where: PS Home (SFCCL Clubhouse) / SFCCL PSN Text Chat
The next live event is less than a month away. This will mark the fourth WAR GAMES event in league history. The first two WAR GAMES events were played in the long second season of the SFCCL. The third WAR GAMES was played last season. Previous winners include SKRFACE13 (aka Xenon5100), ZABI-, and XX_VON_XX. In previous seasons, awards were given to runners-up. However, this season, only the winners of the events will receive prizes (additional wins).
All previous WAR GAMES had the same format. For all live events, members wanting to participate must be online at the time of the event. Since all members are on my Friends List, I will send a message to confirm who is playing. All participating members will join one Endless Battle lobby. The first member to win 7 matches will win the WAR GAMES. By having to win 7 matches guarantees that all members in a full lobby have a shot at defeating the winner by stopping his/her progress and going on their own winning streak. The 7 wins do not have to be consecutive so you can lose a couple of times and still win the event as long as you are the first member to reach 7 wins. Of course, if more than 8 members participate, two or more Endless Battle lobbies will be setup. The first 8 members to win 5 matches in these smaller lobbies will advance to the final lobby of 8 members where the first to win 7 matches wins WAR GAMES. This event is usually the fastest of all the live events since the lobbies go fast. All WAR GAMES matches will be 3 rounds max.
Since DRPEPPER20 won the STARDUST Tournament, he is ineligible to play in any future events this season. The winner of the WAR GAMES will not be allowed to play in other live events this season. This rule is not meant to punish the winners, but rather give all members a chance to win an event and receive the additional wins for their fighters. The is a new rule this season.
The location for the event listed above is both the SFCCL Clubhouse and the Text Chat. I normally do not like to use the Text Chat as it seems to create lag in the matches. However, it is useful to get updates to all members throughout the events. We will first meetup in the Clubhouse and then launch into the necessary lobbies. The Text Chat rooms are always open so feel free to go in there anytime you are online. You may encounter some members there and play your regular season matches.
6. WEBSITE CHANGES
I've updated the standard member schedules as well as the division standings. The Player and Battle Points leaderboards will be updated occasionally now with the STARDUST Tournament over.
Until next time...good luck!
