The league currently has 36 members (72 fighters) with each fighter having 35 matches on their schedule. With 29% of the season complete, every member should have about 20 matches complete (10 per fighter) in order to play all matches by the end of the season (Sunday, November 18, 2012).
Hope everyone is having fun with the season so far. Based on the standings, the divisions are shaping up nicely. However, they do clearly show which members are busing playing their matches and which members are not. I've only played on 3 nights so far this season, but still managed to play with 12 different members. Personally, it is a lot of fun to jump on any nite and play several league matches. Eventually, I expect to have to contact some members to setup specifc times to play.
1. WEEK 7 RESULTS
2. DIVISION STANDINGS - WEEK 7
Here is an example where the number of wins (16) is placed over a better winning percentage (.929). TeamEmporerA's Balrog has won 16 of 18 matches, while Hursh's Dee Jay has won 13 of 14 matches. To encourage members to play as many matches as possible, figthers are ranked based on the number of wins first, and then winning percentage. This also prevents a player with a record of (2-0) being at the top of the division all season over other fighters who may have lost 1 match but played many more matches. Still plenty of time for everyone to play.
It's been two weeks since I posted the division standings with the 3 different colored rankings. Again, this was to inform everyone how a 3-tournament SUPER BRAWL IV event would work. If the season were to end today, the top 8 fighters in each division (Gold rankings) would advance to the 16-fighters Grand Champion bracket of SUPER BRAWL IV. The winner of this tournament would be crowned the Grand Champion of the SFCCL for the 4th season (17th Grand Champion in SFCCL history). As you probably notice, this bracket would hold the best fighters in the league.
The next 8 figthers in each division (Silver rankings) would advance to the Silver Tournament in SUPER BRAWL IV. The winner of this tournament would be crowned the Silver Champion this season. The next 8 fighters in each division (Bronze rankings) would advance to the Bronze Tournament. The winner would be crowned the Bronze Champion this season. The remaining 12 fighters in each division would have their season end, and not advance to any post season tournament. Most of these fighters would be by members who obviously did not play much during the season.
The motiviation for this new setup would be to (again) encourage all members to play out the whole season. Even if you are not among the best fighters in the league, every fighter would be competing for a spot in one of the three tournaments as part of SUPER BRAWL IV. By season's end, the group of 8 fighters your fighter is in with should have about the same number of wins as your figther. For example, fighters making the Bronze tournament would most likely have played a lot matches but lost most of them. No matter their number of wins, their commitment to playing and being active should be rewarded. Instead of advancing to one grand tournament to be beaten one more time by a higher ranked, higher skilled fighter, they should advance to a tournament with other similar skilled fighters. Thus, they have a fighting chance of winning that type of tournament (no pun intended). It gives everyone a goal to work towards, and also a way to guage your success over the coming seasons. If you win the Bronze tournament this season, perhaps next season's goal wil be to make the Silver tournament.
Based on the SFCCL Facebook group poll, 6 members are in favor of the 3 tournaments (including myself) while 3 members prefer keeping SUPER BRAWL IV as one grand tournament. (One vote is by a member not part of this season, SUBES88) Based on the current 36 members, the 9 votes represent a good sample of the league (25%). Therefore, I've decided to move ahead with plans to create the 3 tournaments for SUPER BRAWL IV. I look forward to how it will all play out. I will post a blog at a later date about how the top ranked fighters did in last year's Super Brawl. Not surprisingly, they did well compared to the lower ranked fighters. And to my surprise, the format for the past three Super Brawls has changed every season.
To answer one question before it may be asked - the winners of the three tournaments WILL NOT play each other at the end of the event. It would not be fair for the Gold tournament winner to lose the title of Grand Champion to someone who won the Bronze tournament by defeating lesser skilled fighters. If you want the title of Grand Champion, you must win the Gold tournament. Period.
3. CHANGE OF FIGHTERS / NAMES
Only one members made a change this past week:
A Division:
DrPepper20 Chun Li changed to Dee Jay
A member may change either of their fighters during the season. However, changes are limited to two changes per fighter per season. All previously played matches remain on the schedule as a Win or Loss. Only remaining unplayed matches may be played with the new figther.
4. NEW MEMBERS FOR WEEK 9 (July 30)
As of today, I do not have any new players set to join the league.
5. NEXT LIVE EVENT: WAR GAMES IV
All participating members will be invited to an Endless Battle lobby (mutiple lobbies if necessary). If there is only one lobby, the first member to win 7 matches in the lobby will win the event. If there are more than 8 members playing, qualifying lobbies will be set up first to determine the final 8 members in the Final Lobby (first to 7). Members can play any character during the event and all matches will be best of 3 rounds.
Remember, to be part of any live event, you must be online at the listed time to be invited to the event. These live events take place in one night and last a couple of hours. Based on previous seasons, WAR GAMES is one of the shorter events. All members are encouraged to gather in the SFCCL Clubhouse. Communication will be either via PSN message or Text Chat once the event is underway.
The winning member will receive additional wins for each of their fighters in the division standings. DRPEPPER20 cannot participate since he won the STARDUST Tournament earlier this month. Winners of each of the live events cannot play in future live events in order to allow more members a chance to win an event.
6. WEBSITE CHANGES
The usual updates around the site have been made, including updated fighter schedules and division standings. I've been meaning to update the Player Points and Battle Points, but have not done so yet. Little motivation following the STARDUST tournament.
In the coming weeks, I plan to add a WAR GAMES specific page under the Live Events banner. The dedicated page will eventually hold the videos from the event.
Until next time......good luck!
