I'm proud to announce the details for the first official event for the second season of the SFCCL. We will host WAR GAMES on Saturday, July 31st, at 9 AM Eastern Time (8 AM Central / 6 AM Pacific). The War Games will take advantage of the Endless Battle feature included in Super Street Fighter IV online. The event is open to all active members of the SFCCL. To be included, be sure you have SFCCL-SALonghorn on your Friends List (mandatory to be in the SFCCL anyway) and be online at the above time. This day and time was selected to enable some of the international members to participate. If you are online at this time, you will be invited to the event. We will first assemble in the PS Home Gaming Lounge second floor. This is the first time the SFCCL will attempt to use the Home Community to organize an event. Part of the reason I want to try to use this platform is that we can launch into SSFIV Endless Battle mode directly from Home, and it would eliminate the usual Text Chat Box used in previous events. That is proving to be a lag-inducing program when we have a large group of people. I chose the Gaming Lounge in Home (over say...the Street Fighter 4 space) since it is more open and less distracting. Also, I hate the SF4 space. Sorry, but I hate Seth's stage. Just do. No other reason. I'll be easy to find in the Lounge - I'll be the good looking one. A perfect self-portrait, if I do say so myself.
The prizes awarded for the top 3 finishers allow a member the right to challenge anyone in the league outside of their weekly matches in an official match. For example, a new member with his/her fighters in the C Division could win 1st Place in the War Games which would earn one of their fighters the right to challenge anyone in the Gold Division, including the Champion. The winner of the Prize Match (which will take place during Week 4) assumes the higher ranking in the Gold Division, and the losing fighter takes the lower ranking in the C Division. These events allow any active member in the league to earn a chance to jump in the rankings exclusive to them for winning a special event. So for all you new members to the SFCCL that want a chance to jump up in the rankings quickly......here is your chance. This event is completely voluntary.
The rules for the event are quite simple. Without knowing how many members actually participate, the general structure may change slightly. However, for the purposes of this explanation, let’s say 8 members show up that morning. The 8 members will all enter the same Endless Battle lobby. The first member to win 7 three-round matches in a row will win the 1st Prize. The next member to win 5 three-round matches in a row will win the 2nd Prize, and finally, the next member to win 3 five-round matches in a row will win 3rd Prize. Again, if the number of members is more or less, the details may change slightly.
If more than 8 members participate, we could have more than one lobby for all the members. If that is the case, then we will have an elimination-style lobby where the first 4 members to win 3 matches move onto to the final Endless Battle lobby. If there is a large group of Euro members, they would obviously be placed in their own lobby. Again, final details will be announced before the event begins Saturday morning.
Below is a listing of what each Prize is worth:
1st Place: winning member earns the right to challenge any fighter in the League, from the Gold Division to the last division. The winner of this Prize Match takes the higher ranking, and the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
2nd Place: winning member earns the right to challenge any fighter in the next highest division, from the Gold Division to the last division. The winner of this Prize Match takes the higher ranking, and the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
3rd Place: winning member earns the right to challenge any fighter in their own division, from the Gold Division to the last division. The winner of this Prize Match takes the higher ranking, and the losing fighter falls to the lower ranking.
Please note that only one member's fighter can use the Prize Match. The member must announce which fighter they will use and whom they will challenge. These Prize Matches will take place during Week 4. The involved fighters will have 1 extra match to play that week, the Prize Match, which must be completed ASAP since the outcome determines their other match in Week 4.
I, personally, will be running this event so I am preparing in advance many scenarios based on various turnout levels. The time may not be very convenient to some of our West Coast members, but no time is perfect for every member. There will be future Official Events that will take place at different times, including a midnight event. So don't be too disappointed if you can't make this particular event.
