We are entering an exciting part of the season. Tonight is the 3rd event of the season, SURVIVOR SERIES III. In the next 11 weeks, we will play two more live events (2vs2 TOURNAMENT, FALL BRAWL). New members will only be allowed to join in the next two weeks before I close the league to any new members. The division stnadings are starting to shape up nicely for the 3 different tournaments at the end of season in SUPER BRAWL IV. Spots are still being contested in each section (Gold, Silver, Bronze), but most figthers can now get a good idea of where they fit within the league.
Competition is sure to be tought in each bracket but the fighters should be similar in skill level. While the title of Grand Champion of the SFCCL will be reserved for the winner of the Gold tournament, each fighter earning a spot in one of the tournaments should have a fair chance to win their respective tournament. I am really looking forward to SUPER BRAWL this season.
A final reminder...SURVIVOR SERIES is tonight! This is the popular 4vs4 member team tournament. It is usally the longest event we do each season so be prepared for a long night. When planning the season, I wanted to host the events all at different days and times so all members could have a chance to attend at least one of the events. Tonight's event is catered to the West Coast members due to the late start time (12 AM Eastern / 11 PM Central / 10 PM Mountain / 9 PM Pacific). This event may not be for everyone. Specifically, if you are not good with 2 fighters much less 4 fighters, you may want to skip this event. Each member must use 4 different figthers (their choice) to form a team of 4 fighters. Your team must defeat another member's team. Once all 4 fighters from a team have been defeated, the match is over. Of course, if you are really good with just one fighter, this event offers a unique challenge. Your first 3 fighters may be throw-away fighters, which sets up several 4-versus-1 matches. The winner of the event will receive an additional win for each of their fighters in the division standings.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing everyone tonight!
1. MATCH RESULTS (Week 13)
Each fighter should have 20 matches complete to this point in the season (40 matches per member).
2. DIVISION STANDINGS (Week 13)
Jay's main fighter, Vega, still holds the top spot in the B Division for the third straight week. The competition is a bit tougher in this division as the number of wins to reach the Gold rankings is 9 wins. As a result, with 24 weeks during the regular season, the final week for members to join the league this season will be Week 15.
3. CHANGE OF FIGHTERS / NAMES (Week 13)
None
4. NEW MEMBERS FOR WEEK 15 (September 10th, 2012)
No new members set to join the league.
As stated above, Week 15 will be the final week a member will be added to the league. Two items of note - since the B Division requires a fighter to earn 9 wins to reach the Gold rankings (and thus, an opportunity to win the highest award in the SFCCL, Grand Champion), any new members are at a major disdvantage since over half of the season has passed. After Week 15, only 9 weeks will remain in the regular season, and forces any new members to play as many matches as possible to reach the 9-win minimum. With only 9 weeks remaining after Week 15, new memebrs would only have to play one match per week to reach the 9 wins, providing of course they win all 9 matches. Allowing new members to join until the end of the season could create problems with the 3 different tournaments set for SUPER BRAWL IV. A great player could end up in the Silver or Bronze tournaments not because he/she only won a few matches but because they didn't have enough time to play more matches and earn more wins. That skilled player would then lose an opportunity to win the title of Grand Champion and would dominate the lower level tournaments against other members hoping to end the season against other similar-skilled members.
Also, as I mentioned in my previous blogs, any new members will now take the place of the members who have not played a single match this season. I've attempted to contact these members via email and PSN message, but none have acknowledged my messages in the past couple of weeks. This is a clear sign they don't care about their spots in the league, so their spots will be given to any new members in the next two weeks.
5. NEXT LIVE TOURNAMENT: SURIVOR SERIES III
WHERE: PlayStation Network
WHAT: Member 4x4 double elimination tournament
While the last event (WAR GAMES) is one of the fastest events, the SURVIVOR SERIES tournament is usually the longest. So all those members planning to play...you've been warned!
All participating members must create their own 4-fighter teams. Each fighter must be different. The order of fighters (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) can be changed between rounds, but once a fighter is selected, a member must keep using that same fighter until they are defeated. Once a member's 4 fighters have all been defeated, the match is over. Winner advances in the winner's bracket and the losing member falls to the loser's bracket (double elimination tournament).
All matches are best of 3 rounds (NOT 5 ROUND LIKE REGULAR MATCHES). This is already going to be a long tournament so we don't need to make it even longer by playing 5 round matches each time.
Just be online at the time of the event and I will contact you to verify you are participating in the event. Matchups will then be sent out once the event starts.
Members will be matched up on a first-come, first served basis. This event allows for early/late entrants since it is a double elimination tournament and each matchup takes time to complete. I will be assigning matches shortly before the above time just to get the event going. I will be using CHALLONGE brackets again for everyone to see the tournament progress live.
The winner of the event will receive an additional win for both of their fighters in the division standings. HURSH191 and DRPEPPER20 are not allowed to play since they won the previous live events.
6. WEBSITE CHANGES
All matches, schedules, and division standings have been updated as of last night.
EDIT - After former Grand Champion FRAN_GIL joined our SFCCL Facebook group, I've decided to add a new webpage to the site that should have been here a llllooooonnnnnggggg time ago. I will be working on a GRAND CHAMPIONS OF THE SFCCL page today. Each of the former champiosn deserve special recognition for their accomplishments in the SFCCL. Look for it later today!
