In just two short months, the regular season will be over. The top 24 fighters from the A and B Divisions will advance to one of the end of year tournaments as part of SUPER BRAWL IV. I am really getting excited about this final stretch of the season. Why? Simple. We are all jocking for position in the standings as we approach SUPER BRAWL IV. No doubt the competition and activity this season is better than last season. Lots of matches this season which clearly shows who the top figthers are this season. For that reason alone, I look forward to seeing how the 3 different tournaments in SUPER BRAWL IV (Gold, Silver, & Bronze) will play out. The Gold tournament will simply be brutal. The competition there will be tough as I am sure each member/fighter thinks they can win the title of Grand Champion if only they qualify for the Gold tournament. Similar, I expect other members are looking forward to fighting in their own tournament against other similar skilled members. This should give everyone the motivation to finish the season strong to truly test your skills.
For those unfamiliar with the league format this season, the top 24 fighters in each division will advance to the end-of-season tournament known as SUPER BRAWL IV. Unlike previous SUPER BRAWL tournaments, this season's tournament will be 3 separate tournaments. The top 8 fighters advance to the Gold Tournament to play for right to be called the 16th Grand Champion of the SFCCL. The next 8 figthers in each division (rankings #9-16) will advance to the Silver tournament. The next 8 figthers in each division (rankings #17-24) will advance to the Bronze tournament. There is no official title given to the winning fighter of the Silver nor Bronze tournaments. The purpose for these tournaments is to reward the fighers for playing out the season and to place them in a tournament against other similar skilled fighters. Bascially, any fighter in any of these tournaments has a real chance to win. Also, pending another season, it sets a standard for everyone to strive for in the next season. Make the Bronze tournament this season......aim for the Silver tournament next season and so forth.
The official reminder is below, but don't forget the 4th live event of the season (2vs2 TOURNAMENT) is next Saturday, September 29th @ 10 AM Central. This will be out first weekend event this season. All members are invited to play with exception of DRPEPPER, HURSH, and KILLA KITANA since each has already won an event thsi season. If you want to partner up with another member, just let me know. but even if you dont have a teammate, you will be matched up prior to the event starting.
Now on with the Week 16 activity around the league.
1. Match Results (Week 16)
Based on my experience running this league over 4 seasons, I have come to the realization that members fall into two categories when playing Street Fighter. Either you are an Offensive Player or a Defensive Player. Of course, the best players mix up both styles of play. But these categories also apply to the members of the league. Some members preferred to sit back & wait to be contacted by others to play their matches. Others will take the time to seek out other members via PSN messages or Friends Requests. Just like the game, the Offensive Players usually win.
I realize that when I ask a member if they want to play our matches on any given night, I am most likely to get a positive respone since I am not just a member of this league, but the Admin. Personally, I am committed to playing out all of my matches. I only have to play 10 more members (20 matches total) to finish my schedules, and hopefully have video of all remaining active members. So be on the lookout for my emails and/or PSN messages! I'm coming for ya! That being said, there is another member I would like to thank via this blog, CUBANILE_WL from Florida. Cubanile (aka Cuby) joined the season in Week 7. His regular season will only be 17 weeks long, yet he leads all members in matches complete with 64. 64! He only has to meet up with 5 more members to complete his schedule (10 more matches) over the final 8 weeks to finish all 74 matches on his two schedules. That is an incredible feat (including another below) especially since he joined the season late but also in the face of those members that claim to be unable to find other members to play their matches.
Now I understand that it can be a real challenge to play all matches on your schedules. However, in a league of commited players, it should not be difficult to play most matches. Please reply to other members messages on the PSN. If you are busying playing another game, then just let the other member know when it would be a good time to play SF4. Simple. As the norm, I will be sending a mass email to all members today featuring this week's Roundup. Feel free to hit the 'Reply To All' message to contact other members. Every member's email is there so use the email as a way to reach out to other members. Call out members names on our SFCCL Facebook group page as well.
And please don't be discouraged if your season has not gone as you thought it should have. Challenge yourself to play more and get better. It is the only way any of us improve at something in life. Try for your best showing during the regular season so you can have a real challenge come SUPER BRAWL IV.
2. Division Standings (Week 16)
That being said there are several undefeated fighters lurking in the rankings. They may be biding their time until the tournament! We shall see...
3. CHANGE OF MEMBER'S NAME/FIGHTERS (Week 16)
B Division: OceanicMidnight Juri to Bison
4. NEW MEMBER (Week 16)
The season is officially closed to any new members. Two players did sign up over the past week, but I did inform them that the season was closed. Their information will be kept on file for a possible 5th season.
5. NEXT LIVE TOURNAMENT: 2vs2 TOURNAMENT
* Teams can be made in advance
* All matches will be 3 rounds max
* Teams must win best 2 out of 3 matches
* Double elimination tournament
* Both members of the winning team will receive additional wins for each of their fighters in the rankings
* To particiapate in the tournament, try to be online at least 15 minutes prior to the event time
* CHALLONGE brackets will be posted on the 2vs2 Tournament webpage (listed under LIVE EVENTS) for live results during the event
Even with a large turnout (ie - 10 members), there would only be 5 teams so hopefully many members play. As the number indicates, this will be the 6th 2vs2 Tournament in SFCCL history. It is probably the most popular live event.
6. WEBSITE CHANGES (Week 16)
I hope to update the Player and Battle Points over the next week to include new members XERODGX and TEAMEMPORERD. All schedules, videos, and standings have been updated.
Until next week....good luck!
